Advanced Driver Assistance (ADAS) Indicators

Decode automatic steering, cruise malfunctions, and radar/sensor errors in your vehicle's driver assistance suite.

Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) represent a significant evolutionary step in modern automotive technology, bridging the gap between traditional manual vehicle operation and automated safety features. These systems utilize a complex array of front-facing cameras mounted behind the rearview mirror, radar sensors embedded in the front grille or bumpers, and ultrasonic proximity detectors around the perimeter of the vehicle. Indicators in this category—such as Lane-Keep Assist (LKA) Off, Cruise Control Malfunction, and deactivation warnings for Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) or Automatic Emergency Steering (AES)—are designed to alert the driver when active safety layers are compromised.

Because these systems are assistive rather than mechanical, their indicators are typically colored yellow or amber, representing a warning status. When these lights illuminate, your vehicle's standard mechanical controls, like standard hydraulic braking and manual steering, remain fully functional, but the automatic crash-avoidance systems will not intervene. Common causes for ADAS warnings include physical blockages, such as dirt, snow, ice, or heavy mud layered over the front cameras or grille radars. Misalignment after a minor front-end impact, extreme weather conditions like direct sunlight glare, or internal system calibration loss can also trigger these warnings. Understanding what each icon signifies is crucial to maintaining complete control of your vehicle, especially in challenging environments where external factors can disrupt sensor feedback.
